Another 5k in the books and a new baseline started!

This rollercoaster ride keeps having it’s ebbs and flows. When we last left off I was on a roll with my own personal “hell week” type increased frequency. It really worked well for me and I officially lost everything I gained on that 3 week break and was primed to keep going.

A quick update, since the last post 4 days ago I’ve been keeping up the consistency and I’m starting to feel really good. My last rest day was 2 days ago and I’ve kept up the 2 days on, one day off cycle. Now that my month at Orange Theory has rolled over and the monthly class count has reset, I’m going to have to switch things up a bit, that or just go for the unlimited plan.

It’s been a few weeks and we all know what that means. Strange thing is I reread my previous post and honestly could just copy and paste that into this post. It’s like I’m in sort of a repeating cycle, like that Edge of Tomorrow movie with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, and I’m just doing trials by error through each iteration.
So, essentially, same as before, had a work stress which then somehow stretched into 2.5 week break in workouts and eating horribly in the meantime. I’ve finally gotten back to workouts 5 days ago, mostly because I freaked out because my next 5k is less than a month away and I’m nowhere near ready. In fact, I feel like I’m less ready now than I was when I did my first jog near my fam’s house a couple months ago.

Last month I said it was a good month, and that I was tempting fate by being overtly positive, and to a degree I was correct. This month definitely had some ups and downs, but overall it’s a net win.

This was a good and very encouraging month. Now, I’m tempting fate as I acknowledged whenever I post overtly positive/motivational posts, it all falls apart shortly afterward.
But to quote Michael Scott from The Office, “I’m not superstitious, but I am a little stitious….”

Fun fact, when I was a kid, I absolutely LOVED amusement parks. Thankfully, my parents were kind enough to indulge me whenever we’d visit a different city to check them out if there was one near by. In fact, for a while I wanted to be a roller coaster designer for a long while.
Unfortunately, when you’re in your late 30s and the roller coaster is your weight, the ride is less fun.
What got me thinking about this is I decided to plot out all my weigh-ins from the duration of this blog into a graph. It really was eye opening and interesting to see.
But first, I’ll start with the good news:

Today was a really strange day, and I think I need to type out my thoughts here or I’m going to be up all night thinking about it, so please humor me for a second.
Following up on my last post, been keeping up with working out, I’ve been better with nutrition, although I can always do better. At least this time I stocked up on some healthier snacks.
I’m still somewhat lower energy, so I’m going to wait another week or so and see if it really is lingering never-fully-manifested illness, or if there’s some other thing I have to look into. Maybe take a deep look into mental health or something.
In any case, yesterday I was motivated to tackle this week head on. Signed up for the gym for this morning, had the aforementioned healthier food. Weighed in and I surprisingly didn’t gain any real weight during the week long break. I was good to go.

C’mon now, anyone that’s read a few posts on this blog saw it coming. But at least I’m working to stomp this out sooner than later.

Things have been rolling pretty well. I’ve lost about 10 lbs, which is roughly half of what I gained over the winter months. The workouts have been going well, been able to lift heavier and starting to be able to go faster on the treadmill. Right now, what’s lacking most is flexibility and endurance, but that will come with diligent stretching and consistency.
As we’ve learned the past few years, I tend to need a solid goal to work towards. Apparently, “quality of life” isn’t enough, wanting to look good for weddings sort of works but that motivation doesn’t stick (I already have 2 this year, btw!). But what does seem to motivate me (most of the time) is 5k races.
So on the Facebook page, I linked to a few 5k races that’s been coming up and put out the message, “If anyone wants to do any of these, I will do it with you…..”
